A man accused of committing murder in Moncton, James Hannah, 30, is set to undergo a preliminary inquiry next spring. The charge he faces is first-degree murder for the alleged killing of Zachary Pollock on August 26. Pollock, aged 34, was discovered with severe injuries in a parking lot near the Bridge to Home Shelter and Resource Hub on St. George Street. Despite being taken to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have not disclosed whether the incident occurred at the shelter or if a weapon was involved.
Hannah was apprehended on August 31 and formally charged the following day. He has been in custody since his arrest. In a recent court appearance in Moncton provincial court, it was confirmed that a three-day preliminary inquiry has been scheduled to commence on May 10, 2027. This inquiry aims to assess whether the Crown possesses adequate evidence to proceed to trial.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Hannah would be subject to a trial by judge and jury in the Court of King’s Bench. This charge carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
