Projet Montreal has lodged an urgent request for Fady Dagher, the head of the Montreal Police Service (SPVM), to attend city council within the next seven days. The request, submitted on Monday morning, follows the suspension of two officers from Station 21 in downtown Montreal last week for alleged mistreatment of homeless and racialized individuals, with one officer reportedly urinating on homeless individuals while in uniform.
Earlier this year, four officers were suspended after an internal probe into racism and misconduct at Station 39 in Montreal-Nord. Ericka Alneus, the Official Opposition leader, stated in a press release that her party has significant inquiries for Dagher concerning the “organizational culture, internal oversight mechanisms, and the organization’s capacity to prevent and address behaviors that contradict the values of our city.”
