A tragic incident at the Desert Park Raceway in Osoyoos, B.C., resulted in the death of harness racing driver Scott Knight after a multi-horse collision on Sunday. The raceway reported that the accident occurred when a horse other than Knight’s broke stride and fell on the track, causing a chain reaction leading to a collision involving multiple horses and drivers. One driver was taken to the hospital for treatment, while another received on-site care for minor injuries. Fortunately, the three horses involved in the collision survived.
Randy Rutledge, a friend of Knight who was also racing that day, expressed shock at the event, noting that Knight was a well-respected member of the community known for his involvement in horse training and care. Kelly MacMillan, the president of the Western Canada Horse Racing Association and operator of Desert Park Raceway, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Knight as a valued member of their racing family.
In response to the tragedy, Desert Park Raceway canceled the remaining races for the day and offered counseling services to support the affected individuals in the community during this difficult time.
