An individual from Inuvik is currently in police custody, facing a murder charge related to the disappearance of Jovan Sandhu, aged 27, several months ago. The Northwest Territories Major Crimes Unit has formally accused Waylon Storr, aged 40, of murder in connection with the case, as announced by the RCMP in a press release on Tuesday.
Sandhu was last sighted on August 7 at the Tsiigehtchic ferry crossing, with his disappearance reported on August 9. Following initial missing person inquiries by law enforcement, a joint effort involving police and local search and rescue teams was initiated to conduct an extensive search operation in the vicinity of Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic along the Mackenzie River, suspecting Sandhu’s body to be in that area. Unfortunately, despite the search efforts, his remains were never located.
According to the release, the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit investigators gathered sufficient evidence to charge Storr with murder. Storr was taken into custody on October 16 and is set to make a court appearance in Yellowknife on Tuesday.
