One individual has tragically passed away following a fire in the eastern part of London on Wednesday morning, marking one of two significant incidents that firefighters had to address in a short span of time.
London fire teams swiftly responded to a residential fire on Lyman Street, situated between Cheapside and Oxford Street, around 6:40 a.m. During the operation, firefighters employed an assertive strategy and successfully rescued one person and a pet from the premises, as reported on the department’s social media platform.
Sadly, a deceased individual was discovered inside the residence, with authorities refraining from disclosing the victim’s identity details at this time. London fire investigators are actively probing the cause of the blaze, receiving support from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office and London police.
As investigations continue, Lyman Street remains closed off between Oxford and Krupp Streets.
In a separate emergency response, firefighters were dispatched to a fire in a garage attached to a property on Avenue Road, just south of Dingman Drive, shortly before 9:30 a.m. The initial offensive response was altered to a defensive approach due to a roof collapse, resulting in significant damage to both the garage and the connected house.
Following the incident, two individuals were transported to Victoria Hospital for treatment of injuries, the severity of which remains undisclosed as per information from the fire department.
Further updates on the situation are expected to be provided as the investigations progress.
