The Toronto Tempo made an official announcement on Wednesday that Marina Mabrey, their star guard, will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season due to a right adductor injury. According to the team, Mabrey is anticipated to fully recover without the need for surgical intervention.
This development was somewhat anticipated as Mabrey has been out of action since scoring 22 points in a game against the Indiana Fever on August 18. The Tempo, a new team in the league, have already been eliminated from playoff contention and have only four games left in the season.
Mabrey showcased an exceptional performance this season, averaging 20.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 0.9 steals across 32 games. Her outstanding performance earned her a spot as a league all-star for the first time.
Notably, Mabrey achieved a career milestone by scoring 53 points in a game against Los Angeles on June 25, which tied the WNBA single-game scoring record. She was drafted as the sixth overall pick by the Tempo in the 2026 WNBA expansion draft and had signed a lucrative two-year, $2.4 million US contract before the season began.
The Toronto team will conclude their home games for the inaugural WNBA regular season with matchups against the Indiana Fever on Friday and the New York Liberty on Sunday.
